15, 16 & 17 plus a layout

Took a quick break from drawing to complete my layout for this month's Show Us Your Stuff Challenge. Another image prompt. Check out the details here.

Put one of my drawings to good use - printed it on a 6x4 and scrapped it!

Lots of handmade goodies on here....if I could remember where they all came from I'd tell you, but I can't sorry.

But I can tell you the rose was cast from air-dry clay using Moulds By Mel, then painted with watered down ink (Mel was our lovely sponsor this month so all the DT received some!) These moulds are such a great invention - heaps of designs and beautifully detailed. Made of silicone they are so easy to use with clay, fimo, resin or wax - once pressed in, they come away so easily!

I'm a bit behind with 365 drawings.....storms, blackouts and the fact that my internet has been shaped doesn't help with trying to share them either....

So it's day 20 and I'm up to Drawing 17.

#15 Hugh Jackman

The first one I've been unhappy with - but I'll still show it - realising where things have gone wrong is all part of improving.

I do like the shading and the way the facial hair turned out - but the likeness is not there.

Hugh has very small eyes and I always insist on making the eyes bigger than they need to be!

I think the mouth is too wide also.

Looks more like Julian McMahon I reckon!

#16 Platypus Baby

People always freak about doing hands - but I love all the detail in them.

It's just a matter of seeing every crease and shadow and adding it to your drawing.

Draw what is there - not what you think should be there - is the motto I always try to keep in mind.

It's the challenge for Show Us Your Stuff this month.

 

This old-ish photo of Millie-pup tagging after Mia in the garden was a perfect fit for the quote.....when Millie was litle they would spend ages outside exploring together.

Cute as!

 

Lots of hand made thingamy-bobs on here, including my own hand lettered title.

 

 

 

Helping to keep the art of lettering alive, I've been teaching a little class all term at our local school - Gum Flat Primary.

 

I've had such a ball - and I'm pretty certain they did too...

They would run out to me as I arrived offering to help carry this or that, they awarded me a trophy not once but twice throughout the term, and gave me the biggest cheer on my last day!

 

And wow - talk about impressive talent! Being a small school, I had everyone from Kindy to Year 6 in the one class, and every single one of them created something amazing.

 

 Thrilled to get the chance to be involved in the classroom like that.

And to spark the love of lettering in our young folk.

Happy Friday!

Here's a layout share for you - it's for the Show Us Your Stuff monthly challenge in which you must take your creative cue from this image:

I liked the idea of recreating a pinboard, and was also inspired by the hanging camera straps....

My handmade items are the Charms Creations star and a Nellie G button.

Bits and pieces like the emblem, brads, rubber clothing tag and calendar card add to the pinboard idea.

I had the pleasure of being involved in a special tribute to The Year of The Farmer this month over at Red Earth Scrapping.

Operated by the lovely Helen, city-turned-country-girl, the site has been featuring "country" scrappers all this month - and now it's my turn!

What does the weekend hold for you?

Ours is shaping up to be rather full-on....

a play date, 

a house full of tweenie girls for a sleepover,

 a movie date, 

art class, 

baking for a school-do happening on Monday,

dreaded housework and grocery shopping somewhere in between.

SUYS Revamp

I do enjoy my spot on the Design Team for Show Us Your Stuff - the challenges are always something a bit different from other scrapbooking challenge sites, and the best part.......the focus is on HAND MADE elements.

The site has had a snazzy update recently.

A new look plus a simplified format for challenges - just one per month, plus one Young Scrappers (Sophie's Corner) challenge per month.

Here's mine:

As you can see, I went with the colour scheme, the newsprint and the circles.

All the papers are old scraps.

My handmade item is the photo mat I created using 9 punched circles sewn down with my sewing machine.

Some Thickers letter stickers and some hand lettering for the title completes a very simple (and inexpensive!) page!

Here is my mushroomy-inspired DT example.....

I used:

-Try This Technique (paper quills)

-Charm's Creations lollipop as my sun

-Chip Chop Shop fimo cloud button

-Polly Scrap covered orange button
-a plastic hair bobble (the yellow daisy)

-lots of my own hand-coloured doodly bits (clouds, borders and the title).

A little bit crazy - but I like it!

Best In Show

Here's my latest page for Show Us Your Stuff.....

Your second challenge for the month is to use this rather decadent image as your inspiration.....

I combined the Try This texture paste challenge on mine to create the "chocolate" heart (texture paste mixed with brown acrylic paint) then sprinkled it with microbead "hundreds and thousands".

The photos are of Bethany's exciting win at the Inverell Show last month - Junior Champion for her double choc chip muffins!!!!

WOW....it's been busy here at the Hackney household!

Had visitors almost every weekend for the past month.

Then it was our big trip to Sydney so Kate could see.....

....she was blown away by her first big concert.....I was completely jealous!!!

Photos of our city adventure to come, once I download them off the camera.

Last night Kate and I went to see.....

This is a FANTASTIC movie.

Not OK for younger kids though.

Kate's 12 and she loved it but thought it was a bit full on.

If I'd read the book first I probably wouldn't have let her go.

The violence is not hidden or suggested - it's graphic kids killing kids.

Whole concept is scarily possible for our future.

But a must-see I do believe!
